An Interview with Patrick on his Fifth Birthday

See below for insight into the life of a boy on his fifth birthday. 

I asked Patrick the questions below in English and his answers were a mix of English and Spanish.  My translations and explanations are in parenthesis.  

What is your favorite cereal?  I don’t like avena (“cereal” and that’s not true; he does like cereal)
What is your favorite veggie?  Apples and choclo (“corn”)
What is your favorite drink?  Jugo de manzana (“apple juice”)
What is your favorite toy?  Trucks
What is your favorite movie?  “Cars” or “Toy Story” (I don’t think he’s actually ever seen those movies in their entirety)
What is your favorite game?  Zingo (a bingo-like game)
What is your favorite book?  A Santa book. It’s trying to pop into my head. I can’t know. I don’t know what it’s called.
What is your favorite dinner?  Choclo y carne (“corn and beef”)
What is your favorite lunch?  Chicken empanadas de pollo (“chicken”)
What is your favorite breakfast?  Waffle-ohs (“Eggo waffles”). Why do I need to tell you everything? Why are you writing so many words?
What is your favorite holiday?  Turkey.  Like Thanksgiving.  And corn on the cob.
What is your favorite animal?  A reindeer.  All of Santa’s reindeer.
What is your favorite stuffed animal?  Teddy (a small teddy bear)
What is your favorite color?  Blue
What is your favorite thing to do at school?  Play on the slide
What is your favorite sport?  Hockey
What do you want for your birthday?  A Christmas tree that has trains and the trains have a control.  You know what?  Uncle Matt is going to come and give me a birthday present.
Where do you want to go on vacation this year?  Chicago.  Paraguay.  Estados Unidos (“United States”).
What makes you happy?  When my nunkle nunkles (“aunts and uncles”) tickle me.
What makes you sad?  When Danny hits me and bites me.
How old is Mommy?  10
How old is Daddy?  20
How old is Patrick?  5
How old is Danny?  2
What is Mommy’s favorite thing to do?  Play in the snow with me and Dan.  And I like that too.  Write that I like to play in the snow.
What is Daddy’s favorite thing to do?  Play zingo with me.
What is Daddy’s job?  Work. On a computer.
What is Mommy’s job?  In an office with a computer.
What is Danny’s favorite food?  Chicken on the cob.  I said chicken on the cob, but really he likes chicken and corn on the cob.
What is Daddy’s favorite food?  Chicken with a treat.  A cookie.
What is Mommy’s favorite food?  Mommy I’m tired from talking and saying stuff.  You like corned beef.
What does our family like to do together?  We like to play outside together.  And hug each other.
What do you like to do with Mommy?  Make an angel in the sand.  And flap our wings like birds.  (Not sure what this is about).
What do you like to do with Daddy?  You already said that.  Make a snow angel while Daddy watches.  And we play zingo.
What do you like to do with Danny?  Play in the kitchen and cook food and bring it to you and Daddy.  (I think he’s talking about their toy kitchen, the boys don’t actually cook for us.)
Who are you going to marry?  Maria (one of our nannies in Paraguay).  Actually I don’t want to marry no one.  I don’t like to marry myself.
What do you want to be when you grow up?  A policeman and everyday I’m going to help people.  I’ll have an office.  Maybe Daddy’s office, because by then Mommy and Daddy will be old.
What else do you want to talk about?  Um, presents.  Like trains.
