Mike is Back!

With about 18 hours’ advance notice, Mike showed up at our front door at about 5:30 in the morning one day last week.  The boys, having been told the night before that Mike would be arriving before they woke up and and would be staying for a few days, were very excited.  Patrick, who normally needs convincing to get out of bed in the mornings, got out of bed on his own by 6:15 and went right to the guest room to look for Mike.  Finding Mike’s luggage but no Mike, Patrick, nearly in tears, ran to my room and said, “Mom last night you said Mike would be here when I woke up, and I just looked in his room and he’s not there.  But you said he would be!   Where is he?”  Assured that Mike had indeed arrived but was just downstairs with Scout, a relieved Patrick ran downstairs to see his friend.

Both boys got dressed in record time and were thrilled to snuggle with Mike who read to them about their recent favorite character, Ebenezer Scrooge.   Scout was pretty happy to see Mike too!

Mike and Scout walked the boys to school.

After school, Mike gave the boys a gift of toy “culebras” (snakes).  The boys liked throwing the snakes in the air and cuddling with them at night.

Patrick had fun trying on Mike’s cowboy boots and Danny liked wearing Mike’s hat.  After school, while Danny napped, Mike and Patrick took a walk and enjoyed popsicles and some playtime at a nearby playground. Mike also had time to visit with another former neighbor.  The boy, who speaks no English and has no idea what his tshirt says, does know that Mike loves this shirt.

Mike showed Danny and Patrick YouTube videos and set a good example for nap time.

The boys had a great time hanging out with Mike and they can’t wait to see him again soon!
