Hotel das Cataratas

This past weekend for our tenth wedding anniversary, Brian and I went away for three nights with no kids! It was wonderful. We drove to Iguasu Falls in Brazil. We hit the road with Brazilian reales, Paraguayan guaranies, Argentine pesos, and US dollars.

It’a about five hours from Asunción to the eastern border of Paraguay. We passed many small towns and street-side vendors, motorcycles and farmland along the way.

We drove through Ciudad del Este, the shopping mecca of the country. Since it was late afternoon, most of the shopping stalls were closed.

We crossed into Brazil and drove through the town of Foz do Iguaçu, to Hotel das Cataratas inside Iguaçu National Park.

The hotel and property were just gorgeous. We especially loved hanging by the pool.

There were delicious poolside drinks and snacks.

And sunset by the pool wasn’t bad either!

We celebrated our anniversary weekend with wonderful food and drinks, including two bottles of California wine we brought with us.

There were many different animals around the hotel, including birds, lizards, butterflies, and oversized gophers.

The real attraction of hotel is the view and access to falls anytime. Here is the view from the front of the hotel.

It was especially nice to watch the sunset over the falls.

We had a great weekend at an amazing hotel! Not bad for a late winter getaway!
