Recently the Embassy acquired a new toy: a Segway. It is for getting from one end of the large, 15-acre compound to the other.
I got to try it out (before there were rules in place requiring a helmet)!
I drove the Segway up a ramp, into one door of the cafeteria, past a few people eating lunch, out the other door of the cafeteria, down the ramp, up to the front of the Embassy, around the portico and back. The guards were impressed I didn’t fall over. They said they had never seen a Segway before!
Unfortunately the Segway is not my personal toy. It has since been locked up, for official use only, helmet required.
And lest you think this purchase an extravagant expense of taxpayer dollars, this was a reconditioned Segway – not brand new – and purchased for a good price.
