Today I went on a tour of the hospitals in Asunción. We visited La Costa, San Roque and Centro Médico Bautista.
All in all, I was happy with what I saw, especially at La Costa which was the largest, newest and nicest of the three. They also have an impressive pediatric wing. Hopefully we won’t need to spend time there but it’s good to know it’s there if we need it. We also met a few pediatricians today, including several who were educated and trained in the US. Many of the doctors, nurses and administrators here give out their personal cell phone numbers to their American patients and are very responsive to calls and texts.
Also impressive at La Costa was the dermatology wing. It looked like a fabulous spa. While there certainly are salons and spas in Asunción that offer various facials and skin treatments provided by estheticians, at the hospital these services (and more!) are available provided by dermatologists. I might have to try that some day.
While San Roque and Bautista were certainly adequate and clean, they were older and didn’t seem as technologically advanced as La Costa. All of the hospitals have Emergency Rooms and are able to handle traumas. Again though, I hope we don’t need to use their services.
It was an interesting tour and I’m glad I went. I’ll be making appointments for the boys to see a pediatrician soon!
